The late Steve Jobs was the last owner of the historic Jackling House. Steve Jobs was the brilliant mind behind the Apple devices. Originally built and designed for Daniel Jackling, Steve Jobs became the final owner of the Jackling House. When Jobs bought the mansion, he planned on tearing down the historic mansion to build a much smaller residence. However, a historic preservation group was against his plans and hoped that the historic structure will be relocated rather than torn down. Jobs then went through a court battle requesting the court to give him permission to build a smaller abode. In 2011, Jobs finally won the battle and demolished the Jackling House.

David Filo, Yahoo Co-Founder

Filo is an American businessman that co-founded Yahoo along with Jerry Yang. David owns a compound in Woodside Town along with other famous business personalities.

Larry Ellison, Oracle Corporation CEO

Ellison, the CEO billionaire who co-founded the Oracle Corporation ( a big software company enterprise), owns a big estate in Woodside.

Eric Heiden, Speed Skater

Heiden was a former long track speed skater who was known for winning all speed skating races (men category). Eric set a world record during Winter Olympics in 1980. He also won four Olympic records and five gold medals. Heiden owns a home and currently lives in Woodside.

Linda Cardellini, TV and Movie Actress

Linda, who is best known for her roles in ‘Scooby Doo’ as Velma and ‘Freak and Geeks’ as a HS student, lives in Woodside. She was also casted in ‘ER’ as Samantha Taggart. The film and TV actress is a notable resident of Woodside Town.

Neil Young, Singer-Songwriter

For many years, Neil Young has resided in Woodside. He owns a property on the Bear Gulch road, which he refers to as the ‘Broken Arrow Ranch‘.

Aside from being the home of a number of famous movie and business personalities, Woodside Town in California is also a popular filming location. Located approximately 176km from Rio de Janeiro and 600km from São Paulo, Brazil, the beautiful peninsula of Búzios is easily accessible from the cities by means of buses that ply these routes regularly. Before it was discovered by Spanish explorers, Woodside was home to the natives of the Ohlone tribe. The natives found the area to be a very good place to live in since it has a good water supply, bountiful food source, and a mild climate. This is also what the Spanish explorers found when Gaspar de Portola and his men camped near the area in 1769 in search of the San Francisco Bay.

By the time of the Mexican Land Grant, European settlers had begun trickling in and made residence in the area. By the early 19^th century, English-speaking settlers began dwelling in Woodside and made a living out of logging the redwoods surrounding the expanse.

Woodside became the oldest English-speaking community in the southern part of the San Francisco Peninsula, and by 1838, the first sawmill was constructed in the Mountain Home Ranch owned by Charles Brown, which still stands until today. As San Francisco’s economy started to boom, more and more mills, up to a dozen, started taking advantage of the area to produce much-needed building materials.

But it was not until 1849 during the California Gold Rush when a young lumber businessman Mathias Alfred Parkhurst was able to purchase 127 acres of the area’s timberland and named it “Woodlands”. When the area started to be known by that name, it eventually stuck to the place. The Sequoia Redwoods in the area have been of great use throughout San Francisco’s history and has been utilized to build the homes and establishments in the area for centuries.

Since then, Woodside remains to be a rural residential area. Its small business area only has a few establishments to help maintain the character of a small quaint town, while the residential area mostly consists of ranches and farm houses, as well as townhouses and vacation homes.
